Many swimming pools have sealed light fixtures that can provide lighting for safety when swimming after dark. Some modern swimming pool lights can produce various colors in a series of timed patterns to provide ambiance as well. Since water and electricity are a dangerous combination, a pool light must be fully sealed for safety, to prevent water from getting into the element. You can wire pool lights to the electrical circuit for your pool with some basic hand tools.

This project box will flicker up to W of lighting, to simulate problems with the wiring or the possibility that the power is going to go out. If you don't use the exact dimmer specified here, the wattage handling capacity of this circuit may vary. You can do this by drilling out the rivets that hold the cover on the back of the dimmer. Once the plastic cover is off the back of the dimmer, it will look like this. Solder a wire about 8" long to the wire you just unsoldered. Solder another 8" wire to the rightmost lead of the triac as shown below.
How to Use a Photoresistor (or Photocell) - Arduino Tutorial
When darkness falls and a dusk-to-dawn lamp post fails to light, the first thing you should do is check the bulb. But if a new bulb doesn't fix the problem, or the lamp continues to exhibit odd behavior such as flickering or turning on during the day, it's most likely a bad photocell. You'll have to do some wiring to replace a lamp post photocell, but with the proper precautions it's a safe, straightforward procedure.
